The National Security Committee for NATO Summit - Bucharest 2008 met on Thursday 6 March to analyze the preparation stage of the security measures to be taken in Bucharest, the capital city of Romania, on the occasion of the NATO Summit.
On this occasion, a series of decisions and measures has been adopted, as follows:
- The Committee decided to maintain the „BLUE – CAUTIOUS” terrorist alert level for the next period. Terrorist threat assessments will be caried out on a weekly basis.
- Starting on 24 March and until 10 April, the following activities will be temporarily forbidden on the territory of Romania: transiting, transporting and importing strategic materials. The decision has been transmitted to the National Committee for Nuclear Activity Control (CNCAN) and to the National Agency of Export Control (ANCEX). Strategic materials include weapons, ammunition, explosives, toxic substances, nuclear and radioactive materials.
- The National Security Committee for NATO Summit has approved the Plan for the general simulation of the security measures to be taken during the NATO Summit. The simulation will take place on Saturday 29 March in the afternoon, in Bucharest. Most of the forces involved in providing security for the Summit will be deployed to the security dispositions and will carry out the general simulation exercise of the protection and security measures for the North-Atlantic Summit.
