- The general simulation of the NATO Summit activities will be carried out in Bucharest for several hours
On Saturday, 29 March 2008, starting at 12.30 hrs, there will be carried out the general simulation exercise of the security and protection exercises for the NATO Summit to be held between 2-4 April 2008.
The purpose of this general rehearsal is to check the capacities of reaction, coordination and inter-institutional collaboration regarding the protection and security measures to be taken for the Summit.
The single corridor – the first disposition installed for the rehearsal – will be positioned on one of the travel routes for the dignitaries, being designated exclusively for their movements. The personnel of Bucharest City Hall, escorted by traffic police sqauds, will be marking the limits of the corridor tonight.
More than 60 motorcades will move on this route in order to get to the established destinations (Parliament Palace, Cotroceni Palace, Henri Coandă Airport, etc.) at very short, fixed time intervals.
During the simulation, control and protection dispositions will be installed for this event. At the same time, other procedures provided for in the Summit Security Concept will also be applied.
The organizers decided to hold the simulation exercise on Saturday, 29 March, taking into account the fact that, at the weekends, the capital city is less crowded. The restrictions will be enforced starting tomorrow, 29 March, 12.30 hrs and will be lifted at 24.00 hrs on the same day.
The authorities appeal for the support and understanding of the citizens and media representatives in order that the Summit in Bucharest should progress smoothly.
The National Security Committee for NATO Summit has also planned for activities with accredited journalists for the simulation day.
