The Weekly Meeting of the National Security Committee for NATO Summit - Bucharest 2008

The National Security Committee for NATO Summit – Bucharest 2008 met on Thursday, 20 March 2008, in order to assess the preparation stage of the measures established for Bucharest and Constanţa  County with a view to ensuring optimal conditions for the Summit in April. 

The security environment was assessed from the NATO Summit point of view and the reports will be submitted to the Supreme National Defence Council (C.S.A.T); on this occasion, it will be decided if the terrorist alert level should be maintained or increased. 

At the meeting, the Committee also established directions of management for the unauthorized public demonstrations that might be initiated during the Summit. 

The members of the Committee assessed the operational status of the communications and security system . 

On this occasion, they also analyzed the implementation of the special measures established for the State Border of Romania with a view to preventing and countering illegal acts that might affect national security and the rule of law. 

In order to implement the security and organization measures for the NATO Summit, more than 35,000 employees from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Reform, the Protection and Guard Service, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Special Telecommunications Service will be involved. This strength will man the protection and security dispositions for the high officials attending the Summit.
