The medical security of the dignitaries participating in the NATO Summit in April is provided by:
- The Protection and Guard Service coordinates the application of the medical measures within the security concept;
- The Ministry of Public Health provides pre-hospitalization medical assistance, hospital medical assistance and current medical assistance;
- The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations provides specific extriction means and forces and disaster units, supporting the medical teams;
- The Romanian Academy will participate in the current and preventive medical assistance.
Medical assistance is carried out by specific means within the integrated system of the General Concept, having the following components: preventive medical protection, emergency medical protection, current medical protection and hospital medical protection.
15 medical consulting rooms will be available for the delegations participating in the Summit of the North Atlantic Alliance. These will be located both at the summit venues, and at the hotels.
Pre-hospitalization medical assistance is provided at the first-aid points from the summit venues and the hotels. Medical personnel are permanently present at these first-aid points, working in 12-hour shifts.
More than 60 ambulances and special vehicles with paramedics have been mobilized, and the National Security Committee for NATO Summit will designate 5 emergency hospitals.
Furthermore, medical security measures provide for special extriction vehicles from Bucharest Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, fire engines, ambulances from the Mobile Emergency, Reanimation and Extriction Detachment (Bucharest Inspectorate for Emergency Situations), ambulances from S.M.U.R.D. and S.A.M.B. In case of (road, air, rail) accidents resulting in multiple victims or in case of disasters, medical tents will be erected in order to sort the victims.
Responsible authorities give assurances that all the medical measures implemented during the Summit will not hinder medical services for the population. Thus, the emergency calls received through the dispatcher will have priority in crossing the single corridor, the medical teams being allowed access to the security area for emergency cases. The authorities have also mentioned the fact that the designated hospitals will not be blocked, continuing to provide services for the population.
