THE NATIONAL SECURITY COMMITTEE FOR NATO SUMMIT HAS BEEN TO CONSTANŢA
Friday, 17.03.2008,  02:19 PM

The members of the National Security Committee for NATO Summit – 2008 have been to Constanţa County on Monday, 17 March 2008, in order to establish the security dispositions that are to be created within the context of the Romania – US bilateral meeting.

The security measures for the air, sea and river space, as well as for the delegation travel routes, the communications security and the military strength to be deployed in order to man the protection and security perimeter have been established today at Constanţa by the National Security Committee for NATO Summit – 2008.

The coordinator of the National Security Committee for NATO Summit, the Director of the Protection and Guard Service, General Dr. Lucian Pahonţu, made the following statement at Constanţa:

”As regards the security measures to be taken here, our goal is to create a unitary security disposition, similar to the one in Bucharest, to integrate all the forces with responsibilities in the field of national security. Officers from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Reform, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Protection and Guard Service have been involved in this process.
Furthermore, we have given an active role to the local authorities. We also rely on the fact that the mass media will be a stability and security factor, providing citizens with accurate and timely information.”

On Tuesday, 20 March 2008, the National Security Committee for NATO Summit will hold its meeting, where new decisions will be made with regard to the security of the event in April.
