More than 120 aircraft that were used to transport heads of state, delegations led by heads of government, ministers or senior officials from international organizations, as well as journalists, landed on ”Henri Coandă” International Airport.
Some aircraft were used to transport equipment and other necessary materials. Certain states, such as USA, Russia, France, had spare aircraft for special movements.
Air space security was provided 24/7 by airborne forces and means belonging to the Romanian Air Forces, NATO and some NATO member nations.
18 helicopters belonging to the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Reform and the Romanian Intelligence Service were at the disposition of the National Security Committee for NATO Summit, being ready to carry out humanitarian, surveillance, escort or evacuation missions.
The single corridor established in Bucharest and on DN1 was secured along 20 kilometers, including 4 kilometers of streets adjacent to the corridor, in the areas of the Parliament Palace and Cotroceni Palace.
During the Summit, approximately 35,000 personnel from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior and Administrative Reform, the Protection and Guard Service, the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Foreign Intelligence Service and the Special Telecommunications Service participated in providing the protection and security measures necessary for the smooth progression of the events.
